The
Encyclopaedia of Islamic Banking and Insurance published
by the Institute is the only publication of its kind
published to date.
This
hard-bound volume is a source of information on a wide
range of topics. It also includes a survey of Islamic
banks and financial institutions, research and educational
bodies, a comprehensive bibliography and a glossary
of Arabic terms commonly used in Islamic financing.
The
Encyclopaedia was an immediate success and received
highly favourable reviews and comments by authorities
in the field, extracts from some of these are reproduced
below:
"The
IIBI certainly deserves all our appreciation for the
excellent work done. The Encyclopaedia will certainly
become the most important work of reference in the
field for a long time to come. Congratulations".
Professor Murat
Cizakca
Department of Economics, Bogazici University, Turkey.

"I
must congratulate you on the accomplishment of this
huge and very useful task."
Dr
Fahim Khan

"You
have certainly set a very high standard of what students
of Islamic banking should expect from others if they
are to match the superb quality of research and publications
which your Institute has firmly established."
Dr
Rifaat Ahmed Abdel Karim
Secretary General, Accounting and Auditing, Organisation
for Islamic Financial Institutions, Bahrain.

"Publication
of this encyclopaedia is a welcome addition to the
growing literature on Islamic banking where a lot
of information is available to the specialist and
the non-specialist alike within a single volume. The
Institute of Islamic Banking and Insurance must be
congratulated on this venture".
Dr
Ausaf Ahmed
Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

"The
Encyclopaedia of Islamic Banking and Insurance has
certainly lived up to the Oxford Dictionary definition
of an encyclopaedia, as being a, 'book giving information
on all branches of knowledge of one subject'".
Simon Devenish
Managing Director, Crescent Commercial, London.

"This
is the first attempt to produce a volume covering
all the major issues, concepts and institutions involved
in Islamic banking. It is a brave attempt which largely
succeeds in its aim to provide a clear guide to the
growing energetic market. It is also an important
effort because for those seeking an overview or an
introduction to the area, there is comprehensive coverage
and for those seeking to get a measure of the current
debate, the contents are timely."

Writer on Islamic Banking, London
