Bahrain to Set Up bank for Women

A major Bahraini Islamic bank is to soon set up a "women-only" bank that would be managed by female staff to serve women.

"From the head of the bank's operations down to the tellers, the staff will be only women, and only women customers will be allowed inside the bank," announced Adnan Yousif, chief executive officer of Bahrain Islamic Bank.

The political situation in Bahrain, in which Islamists candidates have won the majority of the parliament seats has nothing to do with this decision, he noted. The aim was purely professional, he said.

"Through this unprecedented measure, we simply want to assist half of the population with their savings," Yousif said.
