The
objective of the Executive Development Programme is to enhance
the professional skills of personnel involved in Islamic
Banking and Finance.
Furthermore
it is designed to promote awareness of, and interest in,
the expanding role that Islamic finance is playing in the global
financial market.
The programme
also seeks to bring together personnel of Islamic and conventional
financial institutions from different parts of the world, to discuss
issues, exchange experiences, and cross-fertilise ideas.
The basic concept
of the programme is to help participants place their business in
the context of current Islamic banking development and to
give some indication of the ways in which the market may be developing
in the Gulf States, Malaysia, Pakistan and other countries.
Programme
Structure
A series of
lectures and workshops by leading academics, lawyers, accountants
and market practitioners, interspersed with visits to some of the
major international financial organisations.
The Executive
Development Programme provides a framework in which the importance
of Islamic finance could be judged in a global context.
The IIBI intends
to stable the Executive Development Programme as a twice-yearly
event; one for middle level executives focussing on a basic
review of Islamic finance, its place in the Muslim world and its
development; and one for more senior, experienced managers on the
issues of management, strategy and development.
The programme
agenda is complemented by visits to high profile financial institutions
in London, such as the Bank of England, London Commodity Exchange,
London International Financial Futures Exchange (LIFFE), and major
western banks handling Islamic financial instruments.
"The
step taken by the Institute is to be applauded. One must keep
shooting at a target, and in the long term the aim will only get
better and better."
Mohd Akob Bin Ahmad, Acting Head of Operations, Bank Rakyat, Malaysia.
